Quintessence models are an alternative to the cosmological constant paradigm, when describing dark energy and the acceleration of our recent universe. The latest cosmological observations actually give hints that such a dynamical dark energy could be real. In this talk, we will motivate and present attempts at getting quintessence models from string compactifications. We will compare and constrain those with observations. In particular, the phantom regime possibly observed by DESI is very instructive.
